Production Notes

Having worked in film production in various capacities in around Cleveland and Akron, Ohio Producer (Waters) and Co-Producer (Kadar) teamed up to create their first short film –  f my c. It was important that the locations (interior and exterior) be true to their surroundings and to the heart of the film.  Due to the generous nature of Clevelanders, it was possible to secure every location and production need for the six day shoot, including the pre-production’s audition and rehearsal space in and around their hometown.  And the production team auditioned over 100 local actors for each of the primary and secondary roles, including call backs before settling on the final cast.

As equally important for Waters was the need to capture as much spontaneity from the actors as possible.  And the production team also recognized the challenge that a short film environment would pose in creating the intimacy that is needed for a story of this nature. The decision was made to roll camera as much and as often possible to capture the more subtle moments and exchanges. And to add an additional layer, a 16 mm camera was used to photograph the behind the scenes relational moments to help emphasize the complexity of the two main characters, as well as their relationship to one another.  Rounding out the camera selection, Waters decided to raid the Super 8 home movies of Bestic(Brianne) and Madorsky(Daisy).  She didn’t have to search far to find traces of the film characters in each of her main actors, and was able to incorporate them into the opening sequence of the film.

As with every production, shoot days did not goes as smoothly as pre-production notes would indicate from a storm that forced Waters to alter the production dates just 12 hours before principal photography began, that also saw craft services preparing food by campfire, to a missing make-up artist stranded in competition at a Wren Fair, and another battling a tree that had fallen into her home. But, in the end (which in this case refers to post production), Kadar and Waters were tired but grateful for the amazing and talented Cast and Crew of f my c.
